Moon or a Wi-Fi Hotspot?

Technology has seen quite a lot of advancements and will surely see more in the future. An experiment was conducted by some scientists over the past years shooting laser beams on the moon which resulted in the moon turning into a Wi-Fi hotspot. Over the years, scientists have been experimenting moon as a living place but they have found it as a much more useful place. A benefit in return can be that the neighboring planets and rocks which are orbiting it constantly can have internet access which can be handy. Regarding this, many authorities have taken some interest in the experiment. An example is of the US based Optical society.

The connection is not that simple like the normal Wi-Fi hotspot. It would rather not connect locally. There are much more advancements to be made in this technology. The team which conducted the experiment is consisting of members of MIT and of NASA.  The members of both the firms introduced the new phase of technology with their Lunar Laser Communication Demo started transferring data through the all new connection from the moon which has a distance of 384633km from Earth and can be a useful tool especially for the people on space.

It gives out a reasonable speed much higher than the internet connections present on earth. It is about 19.4 megabits per second which is quite enough and extremely helpful.  It is also faster than the best satellite uplink which was used I the past. The scientists conducted this in Cape Town and results show that this moon Wi-Fi hotspot gives better results than the local connections of Cape Town itself.

According to an MIT member, this will be challenging especially the link between Earth and moon because of the bigger distance and the issue of spreading of light which is unreliable. The light can bend which can withdraw the signals from the receiver because of the atmosphere as a little disturbance or disorder   can harm the travel of light which is the main source to hold the connection. The system is no doubt advanced and creative but a little twist or some malfunctioning can harm the whole system and that is present in every internet connection. There might be some delay as well due to the laser beams at times of data exchange like a three second delay is must in this connection during data exchange.

To enable the running of the connection four telescopes each having a 15cm diameter was installed at the ground terminal at White Sands, New Mexico. They also are fed by laser through a transmitter which then sends these as infra-red rays to the receiver which runs the connection. According to the same MIT member the four telescopes were installed to make sure the signal went to the satellite orbiting the receiver which would then do the rest. According to experts this method is 4800 times faster and in future can be more reliable and also an alternative if the world is short of any connection.
