When you make the decision to start your own business, you need to be sure you think of the best way to make the public aware of it. After all, if nobody knows the company exists, you’ll have a hard time turning that business into anything successful. Most people will stick to the tried and true methods of marketing, such as taking out ad space and creating a website. Both of these are solid marketing tactics, but it’s still a good idea to bring some fun into it as well. Take a look at the following four fun ways to market your startup.
- Event Marketing
People love having something to do, which is why outdoor event marketing is always a good idea. This gives people the opportunity to see your location, meet your employees, and learn more about you and what you do. If you’re going to host an event, try to tie it in with something relevant to your company. For instance, if you’re a startup that has something to do with vehicles, why not host a car show during the event? This way, when people think of the event and what they did, it will have something to do with your company. Be sure to get all the details in place to, such as refreshments, food, swag, entertainment, and anything else that will make your event successful.
- Social Media
Most people today have some type of social media account, which means it’s very important that your company get on the social media scene. Since there are so many out there to choose from, it’s a good idea to do some research first. Find out who you want to target as your audience, and then choose the social media sites that resonate best with that audience. For instance, if you want to hit the Baby Boomers, Facebook would be a good choice. If you’re looking to reach Gen Z, then you should consider Snapchat for business. If you put your effort into the wrong social media site, it will not help you get any traction, so be sure to do the work first.
- Partner Up
Sometimes it’s fun to piggyback off someone else. If you want to get your name out there, find a way to partner with some other company and piggyback on their branding. For instance, consider donating goods or services to a popular nonprofit or event in the area. They will usually do some type of promotion for you, whether putting a link to your website on their own site or calling your company name out on marketing materials. Since this company already has some loyal followers, you can gain a great deal of exposure without lifting too much of a finger.
- Be Different
The best way to have fun while marketing your startup is to be different. If every other company like yours is spreading the same message or using the same tactics, take a different approach. Be wild and vibrant in a mundane industry, or take charge and lead the way in an industry inundated with rule followers. If you can find a way to get your company to stand out, it’s a great way to create a name for yourself and have people remember it.
Marketing a startup company will have its challenges, but that just makes the reward much stronger. Be sure to really think hard about how you’d like to get your company’s name out there, and then follow that drive to get it done.
