Even though this presidential election has been the most heated and oftentimes nastiest in history, the unquestionable winner of Electoral College votes is Donald J. Trump. Whether or not you agree with his politics or even support him as the President Elect, there are some campaign promises he made which America is holding him to.
The country is literally falling apart, so when he promised to focus on the infrastructure, this not only means creating millions of jobs for blue collar workers, but even more exciting to those with a masters degree in civil engineering, is the promise of a future in which their skills will be in great demand. Many of the jobs created will be for civil engineers.
Just What Is It That a Civil Engineer Does?
If you are questioning why civil engineers would be in heaven if Trump holds true to his campaign promise to rebuild our failing infrastructure, a short look at what it is that they do might answer your questions. Whether that professional got his or her civil engineering degree online or in a traditional campus setting, a civil engineer is one who specializes in designing, constructing and maintaining the natural and physical environment. This means an online civil engineering degree can qualify you to design, build and maintain:
- Dams
- Bridges
- Canals
- Roads
- Buildings
And so much more. You can thank a civil engineer for any structure you see. If Trump even touches the surface of our failing infrastructure, thousands of civil engineers will be put to work!
Then the Work Begins
Not only will civil engineers be in heaven but think of all those hourly workers who have lost jobs to overseas enterprises? A project of this magnitude would create not thousands of jobs, not even tens of thousands of jobs but literally millions of jobs.
From construction workers to office staff to manufacturers supplying parts and equipment, this could be the jump start to the economy that we have been longing for over the past eight to ten years – ever since the Great Recession struck during a George W. Bush presidency.
Forget Politics and Think Jobs
So you see, it isn’t a political crisis so much as it is a financial crisis and the country now has hope that one non-political businessman can put the country to rights again, financially that is. Once the work begins, workers across all party lines will have an opportunity to go back to work. At this point, it isn’t clear where the funding will come from, but with a stimulus to the economy based on the creation of jobs, there is every reason to believe tax dollars will fund the project.
The point in all this is that we have too long been lacking in hope and now it is time to give someone else a chance to kick start a sluggish economy. It doesn’t matter if that person is a Democrat, a Republican, a Libertarian, an Independent, a Green Party member or a Martian. The state of the economy is at an all-time low and with the help of civil engineers and work on the infrastructure, jobs really can be created. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and watch as it plays out. You never know, do you, until it happens?
