Office Cleaning Checklist: 5 Tips for a Clean Office

According to psychotherapist and professional organizer Cindy Glovinsky, our brains don’t have to work as hard in an organized, clean space. If your office space is cluttered and dusty, your team might start feeling mentally messy, too.

Are you struggling to keep your office space clean?

With a few office cleaning tips and tricks, you can discover the clean office space you need to succeed.

Don’t leave your team working among stacks of paper and clutter. Instead, get started with these five essential office cleaning tips.

Organize

90% of Americans claim clutter has a negative impact on their lives and work. 77% of people said clutter hurts their productivity, too.

The first step on your clean office checklist is to get organized.

A towering stack of papers can cause important documents to get lost. Instead, start filing. Develop a system, whether it’s by date, alphabetical, or by importance.

Better yet, go digital! Scan documents you don’t need and archive them away. A paper-free office means a clutter-free office.

By getting organized, you can keep a clean office and get everyone focused.

Disinfect

When cleaning office building areas, don’t neglect communal spaces. That includes the bathroom, kitchen, and breakroom.

It’s important to disinfect these high-traffic areas. Otherwise, you’re giving germs the chance to spread. With a clean office, you can create a healthy environment for your employees and customers.

In the bathroom, scrub the toilet bowls, seat, lid, outside of the bowl, and base of the toilet with disinfectant. In the kitchen, scrub the sink, counters, tables, and chairs as well.

Don’t forget to sweep and mop the floors, too.

Here are a few tips for restroom cleaning maintenance for additional help.

Divide Tasks

Developing office cleaning procedures for your team can help everyone remain efficient.

Divide tasks to each department. If you have a smaller team, assign office cleaning tasks to specific team members.

If you outsource your office cleaning, make sure you communicate what you need to each specific vendor. That way, your goals, and priorities are clear to everyone involved.

Make a Long-Term Plan

Make a plan and stick to it!

Daily cleaning tasks can help everyone keep their personal space clean. You can also create a list of weekly and monthly cleaning tasks for larger jobs and surfaces.

This includes cleaning out the fridge, cleaning glass walls and doors, and fall/summer HVAC cleaning.

Making a preventative maintenance plan can help you keep the office clean. With a plan, you won’t miss any major spots throughout the office.

Improve Air Quality

Improving your office air quality can ensure you maintain a clean office. This will also help improve the overall health of your team, too.

Add plants or air purifiers to make the workplace breathable.

Make sure you get your air ducts and vents checked. Don’t forget to switch your air filters every few months to improve airflow.
