Types of Designers
The truth is that there are many different types of designers. Generally, designers are creative artists that specialize in creating something that works well and/or is visually appealing. Regardless of the type of designer, each design team may have a unique structure.
To get a better idea of types of designers, here are five of the most common.
1. Web Designer
A web designer is responsible for how a website or some other form of internet content looks. The images, fonts, and layout of a website were likely chosen by a web designer. Sometimes the designer is responsible for the content of the website, but more often they are given the content to design.
Web designers usually have special software to complete projects and may work independently or as part of an agency.
2. Graphic Designer
A graphic designer works with art and photos to create advertisements, magazines, brochures, and much more.
Marketing materials and business logos are often created by a graphic designer who specializes in this form of art. Much like a web designer, a graphic designer is responsible for choosing layout, font, and visuals for their material
There are several different graphic design software options, and graphic designers can work as independent contractors or as part of a larger company.
3. Fashion Designer
A fashion designer chooses all the details for a specific form of clothing or accessory. They create sketches of the shape and overall look of the garment and then pick things like fabric, color, and any other details.
Some fashion designers actually create garments from their sketches, but most of the time they present the design to someone else to actually create it.
4. Architectural Designer
An architectural designer designs houses, offices, and other types of buildings and structures. The architectural designer on a project is not the same as the architect but they may work together to complete projects.
Architectural designers work on the interior and exterior of buildings. They are usually employed by firms, but some work independently.
5. Industrial Designer
An industrial designer works primarily on physical products. They are responsible for sketching and often creating a prototype or 3D model of their product.
Industrial designers may work on anything from airplane parts to furniture to medical devices.

Working as any type of designer requires a certain level of creativity, but there are many different ways to express it. There are a lot of great opportunities for designers to flourish.
