While it’d be nice if the paycheck was enough of an incentive, this isn’t always the case. Knowing this, get creative regarding the incentives you provide. Yes, a great incentive is a monetary bonus. However, there are other incentives that might prove to be more valuable to employees. For example, a brand-new laptop, the option to telecommute twice a week or get a private office are some options to consider.
Make sure they have the necessary tools.
Sometimes, employees aren’t able to produce as quickly as you’d like them to because they don’t have the proper tools to work. If the internet connection is old and slow, reach out to a company that provides fibre optics services and more. If the office is uncomfortably hot in the warmer months, get the HVAC unit fixed. These updates might seem minor, but they can make a major difference.
Consider the skill set.
Take a look at someone’s skill set. Have a conversation with them regarding where they seem to shine the most. Give them more work surrounding their strengths. When you have people who are constantly operating in work that they can do with their eyes closed, you’ll improve the chances of productivity within the workplace. This might mean switching around the tasks and responsibilities of the employees. However, it’s worth the switch.
Keep action items streamlined.
If you’re dealing with an assistant who doesn’t provide work at the time you want, consider the fact that they might be overwhelmed and confused about what you want first. It’s fine to pile work on your assistant. They have a job to do. However, consider a color-coding system to let them know which items need to be prioritized immediately. This can help them develop a system that works with when you need deliverables.
