The world is fraught right now for employees and business owners alike. Everyone wants to be earning a living, but no one wants to risk their health or life for a paycheck. Bills need to be paid, though, so a way must be found. With the economy slowly re-opening, there are steps employers can take to mitigate risk for their teams.
Contactless Thermometer
While a fever is only one indicator of illness, it is an easy one to track. Asking employees to have their temperature taken every morning at the door is one quick and easy way to identify someone who is beginning to show symptoms. In fact, more and more employers have been using these, including television and film productions where close contact can’t always be avoided. Asking employees to self-report the less obvious symptoms, such as stomach upsets or sore throats, can also help to protect everyone.
Digital Contact Tracing System
One way of tracking who has been in contact with an infected person—and therefore quarantining them even before they show symptoms themselves—is using a digital contact tracing system. Rather than relying on sometimes faulty memory to track contacts, these are generally apps and devices that effortlessly track and store contact automatically. Though it is important to use a company with strong personal data protection and anonymity, the right app can be a literal lifesaver.
Disposable Sanitation Supplies
Even with the best of intentions, anyone can forget to bring a mask to work one day, or realize that their masks are all dirty just minutes before they have to leave for the office. Having disposable masks and disposable gloves at the workplace makes it much easier to require and enforce safety measures. They protect everyone and can keep a business up and running, and at a minimal cost and inconvenience. Touchless hand sanitizer dispensers are another easy way to increase safety and sanitation.
Plastic Desk Shields
While open office spaces have long been popular for a variety of reasons, COVID-19 has changed how the world has to do business, at least for the time being. If employees can’t each get their own office or work from home, a plastic desk shield or separator can at least make those open spaces safer. They are easily added and removed, and can be wiped down daily, helping to limit the spread of germs.
While there is no perfect solution to the challenge the world is now facing, there are many steps that can be taken to increase safety. These steps will allow businesses to open and the economy to slowly recover, while still safeguarding the health of employees and families. It can also mean the difference between flattening the curve and being crushed by it.
