The Regional Rural Banks examination administered by IBPS is tough to crack. One of the best ways to clear this competitive exam is to get familiar with the exam pattern and syllabus. For that, you must analyze the previous year’s question papers. Here’s a guide on how to analyze and understand IBPS RRB previous year’s paper in detail.
Understand the Syllabus First
Before you start analyzing question papers, you must understand the syllabus of the IBPS RRB examination. It will be different for different scales and posts.
Generally, everything falls under the following five subjects for Scale I:
- Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Computer Knowledge
- General Awareness
- English/Hindi Language
For the Scale II officer exam, you have Financial Awareness added to your syllabus. Scale-II Specialist cadre examination has Professional Knowledge in the syllabus.
Under each subject, you have many topics you have to cover. Only the Reasoning section comprises 18 or 19 topics. Quantitative Aptitude has 15 topics.
Therefore, to understand the IBPS RRB previous year paper, you must first assess the complete syllabus.
IBPS RRB Question Paper
Each year, the pattern changes for the RRB exam, while the sections remain the same. As you go through the previous year papers, you’ll realize they’re in the following order:
- Test I – Reasoning Ability
- Test II – Quantitative Aptitude
- Test III – General Awareness
- Test IV – Computer Knowledge
- test V – English/Hindi Language
Other subjects like financial awareness and professional knowledge will be in between. Each topic will have 20 or 40 questions carrying one mark each.
IBPS RRB Officer Scale I Exam Analysis
The Officer Scale I prelims exam was recently concluded on September of 13th. The exam was conducted over three days, five shifts per day. The level of questions was reported to be between easy to moderate.
Out of the 40 questions in the Reasoning Ability section, here is the number of questions asked from each topic:
- Puzzles & Seating Arrangement – 20-23 questions
- Syllogism – 4-5 questions
- Blood Relations – 4-5 questions
- Inequalities – 1-3 questions
- Coding-decoding – 1-2 questions
- Alphanumeric Series – 2-3 questions
- Direction Test – 2-3 questions
- Miscellaneous – 6-7 questions
The “Puzzles and Seating Arrangement,” which was the main topic in IBPS RRB Scale I prelims examination, the questions asked were from the following subjects:
- Linear Arrangement in Single Line
- Linear Arrangement
- Floor-based puzzle
- Year Based puzzle
- Month based puzzle
- Square seating arrangement puzzle
- Box based puzzle
- An uncertain number of people puzzle
- Circular seating arrangement
Similarly, in the Quantitative Aptitude section, the following number of questions were asked from each section:
- Data Interpretation – 12-15 questions
- Quadratic Equation – 4-5 questions
- Number Series – 5 questions
- Approximation – 5-6 questions
- Inequality – 4-5 questions
- Quantity 1 and Quantity 2 Based Questions – 4-5 questions
- Word Problems – 15-17 questions
This section was lengthier than Logical Reasoning, but that’s not always the case. For the Mains paper, you’ll have to answer more sections. 40 questions each will be from General Awareness, English/Hindi Language, and Computer Knowledge.
