Apple Announces Event For September 14th, New Iphones Expected

Apple Inc. finally made the announcement everyone has been waiting for; the company’s next special event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14th. Most industry watchers believe that the smartphone giant will unveil its new series of flagship iPhones at this event. Since 2013, the tech firm has managed to deliver new phones in September like clockwork. Last year, Apple had launched a redesigned iPhone that boasted 5G connectivity. This year, the company is not expected to make any radical changes to its phone’s design. Most experts have stated that they expect small technical updates to be made to the phone’s camera system and processor.

Market analysts said that updates rate had reached a peak in 2021 because of 5G connectivity and they are expected to remain moderate this year. However, they could still lead to higher volumes in 2022. They also added that they were still expecting Apple to have a record year, primarily because of higher sales of the iPhone SE, which comes with a lower price tag. According to the rumors/leaks, the new line of iPhones are expected to upgrade the Portrait mode feature of the phones to video. Plus, they are also expected to boast a higher quality format for video recording.

The depth sensor of the phone is used by the Portrait mode for focusing on the faces, while it blurs the background. This enables amateur photographers to take high quality pictures. Apple did not provide any details after sending out invitations to the media. The launch of the phones in mid-September leads to a huge surge in sales in the company’s fiscal fourth quarter as the newly released iPhones are snapped up by millions of avid shoppers. However, the event had experienced a delay last year by a month because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Production had slowed down and there had also been supply issues due to which the launch was pushed to October. This meant that opening weekend sales of the iPhone were not part of the results of the fourth quarter. Wall Street analysts also use the event for modeling their sales projections in the Western markets for the upcoming holiday shopping season, which is also the largest sales quarter for Apple. Previously, the company’s phone launches had been quite splashy, as they were attended by hundreds of journalists and were held at its sprawling offices in Cupertino, California.

But, the company has been forced to hold events virtually from last year because of the pandemic. This year as well, despite hopes of a physical event, Apple will keep it virtual. Other than the new iPhones, Apple is also expected to announce new Airpods models and a new Apple Watch. The latter are released annually, much like the iPhones, whereas the former are due for a revision because their last update happened back in 2019. The company is also due for refreshing the iPad models and the MacBook Pro this fall, if it continues with its usual schedule. The launch will be available for streaming on the Apple website.
