5 Common Office PC Problems and How to Solve Them

If you work in an office with computers, as many people do, you might be aware of some common PC-related problems. What you may not be so sure about is how to fix them.

You can always contact a small business IT company if you feel like you need some IT help on a regular basis. You should also know about some of the ways to fix common PC problems that you might encounter in an office setting.

We’ll go over some of those right now.

Your PC Won’t Power On

You can’t get any work done if you can’t power on your PC. If this happens, you should first check all the cables to make sure they’re plugged in. One of them might have gotten disconnected.

You can also hold down the power button for an entire minute to see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes, that can work. If you’re using a laptop, you can remove the battery and plug the computer into the nearest outlet. That sometimes does the trick.

Keyboard Issues

You might hear a clicking noise from your keyboard, but it’s not creating text on the screen when you type. You might have enabled the filter keys or toggle functionality.

If so, open the control panel and change the settings back using Ease of Access.

Slow Performance

A slow PC at the office can be maddening. If you’re experiencing this, you can use a cleanup program to update your drivers. Running a check can also fix any broken links and registry items that are slowing down the computer as it’s trying to run.

You can also put any programs to sleep that are running in the background. Many times, there are programs running that you’re not aware of that are slowing your performance to a crawl.

Your Computer Keeps Freezing

If your computer keeps freezing, then usually, rebooting it will solve the problem. If freezes occur, that often means there are too many processes trying to run at once, and the computer isn’t able to deal with all of that activity simultaneously.

You can also use malware detection programs and antivirus software to make sure there is no malware or spyware on the computer.

The Blue Screen of Death

The blue screen of death, which some in the IT community abbreviate as BSOD, is probably one of the most terrifying things you can see when using a work computer. Many times, though, it’s not as bad as it first appears.

You can try simply rebooting the computer, and often, that will solve the problem. If it doesn’t, look for a line of white text that usually appears at the bottom of the screen.

That text will tell you the problem your computer is having. Once you see what that code is, you can look up solutions online for how to fix it.

You can always consider hiring permanent IT staffers as well. Some companies feel that it’s justified to pay for an onsite IT department.
