5 Must Have Construction Materials for Every Job Site

Construction

Any construction project is going to require time, energy, and planning. It is much harder to complete a construction project if you don’t have the right tools. While some construction projects require specialized tools, you will use some basic tools in just about every construction project. Here are five must-have tools on all construction sites.

1. Pencil

It is one of the simplest tools but also the most essential. From a supervisor down to a new tradesman, having the ability to jot down notes, draw plans, or take measurements is critical for construction site success. A typical number two pencil is okay, but a carpenter’s pencil has thick lead that can be used to write on just about anything.

2. Tape Measure

Whether you are doing general construction, hanging siding, or pouring concrete, a tape measure is an essential tool that you will use for big and small projects. You will use it when estimating the job all the way down to doing the finest details at the end of the project. Even if your job requires you to use specialized tools and machinery, like the concrete finishing tools from a company like MaCon Supply, you will still rely on a simple tape measure to get the job done right.

3. Spirit Level

Construction is synonymous with straight lines. Whether you are building a wall or framing a house, the straighter things are, the more sturdy they will be and the more attractive they will look. A spirit level has a vial of liquid with an air bubble that sits parallel to the body of the level. When the tool is level, the bubble sits in the middle of the vial. The bubble travels to the highest side if things are sloped or slanted in one direction.

4. Hammer

Every manual tool in the construction industry has its power tool counterpart. However, nothing has been able to replace the functionality of a hammer. Hammers come in all varieties, including carpentry, framing, electrical, masonry, and demolition styles. Anyone who works in construction has a classic claw hammer. These are prized for their simplicity, versatility, and ease of use.

5. Screwdrivers

Screwdrivers come in a variety of designs. But no construction toolbox would be complete without at least one flathead and one Phillips screwdriver. Get screwdrivers with lengths that allow you to work in tight spaces or reach spaces farther away.

With the five tools mentioned above, you can start to work in construction. Of course, your tool bag will grow as you specialize in a trade, like HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or concrete. However, you will always return to these five essential tools needed for construction.
