Microsoft has reportedly begun experimenting with numerous ways of including GPT features of OpenAI in Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. It aims to build the language AI technology into its primary apps.
According to reports, Microsoft Word’s autocomplete feature already has OpenAI’s GPT model of text generating. The tech company is also in the process of integrating it further into Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
Microsoft has reportedly begun utilizing OpenAI’s GPT model to enhance Outlook search results, allowing users to find what they look for without having to conduct research with keywords in emails.
The tech company has experimented with how these Artificial Intelligence models could propose a reply to emails or mention document changes to make users’ writing much better. It is vague if Microsoft intends to unveil these options or is just experimenting with them.
While Microsoft looks at ChatGPT’s functionality, its Outlook could use conversational AI to compose emails bottomed on queries. The company plans to unveil a Bing version that utilizes ChatGPT to respond to search queries. The new feature may appear in March to make Bing as modest as Google.
Challenges of Integrating GPT into Office Apps
While Microsoft has already begun looking at the options to use GPT in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, it will likely face several challenges introducing more advanced AI text generation tools for its Office apps.
The tech company may experience accuracy issues while bringing the aforementioned cutting-edge features to its productivity apps. ChatGPT presents improper data, which would allow users to create all types of documents.
Privacy is another primary hurdle. Microsoft might make customized models for users without compromising their information. However, reports confirm that Microsoft is working on privacy matters to preserve models with GPT-3 and GPT-4. The company researchers claimed they had trained large massive language models on private data.
Microsoft could scrape and review data from Teams Meetings transcripts using these models. It could subsequently include images created from the Dall-E 2 image generation model of OpenAI in PPTs.

Use of AI in Microsoft’s Productivity Apps

MS Editor also improves users’ writing via AI to perform grammar checks, text prediction, and spell checking. On the other hand, Microsoft made an AI-powered autocomplete for code through GPT-3 in 2020.
The tech company invested $1 billion into OpenAI in 2019, whereas it obtained the license to the fundamental technology of GPT-3 two years ago. It has had a healthy relationship with OpenAI since then and plans to include an AI text-to-image model to Dall-E 2-powered Bing.
