Gaming laptops have been on the market since 1991. Gaming computers and laptops come in all shapes and sizes, but they typically share common features: a powerful processor, a large amount of RAM, and a high-end graphics card.
Gaming laptops have evolved a great deal over the past 31 years. In 2004, Dell released the XPS M170, one of the first gaming laptops to feature a 17-inch screen. This laptop had an Intel Pentium 4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card with 128 MB of video memory. It weighed 10 pounds and cost $1,500.
Since then the laptops have been getting smaller & more powerful. Razer is considered the original creator of the modern gaming laptop with its launch of the razer blade in 2011. This laptop was thinner than an iPhone at the time and had a dual-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics card. This set the standard for modern gaming laptops to follow.
The constant advancement in tech is driving gaming laptops to push out higher ceilings. Gaming laptops are also used as high-end computational devices due to their raw performance. Some technology from the gaming segment also makes its way to the regular laptop category. Some laptops in the mid-budget range now feature 16GB of RAM and faster storage due to advancements in the gaming segment.
The future of gaming laptops will make high-performance activities simpler to accomplish, and machines will be small enough to transport. Gaming laptops will always have a place for individuals who require mobility and power.
